Open Educational Resources

"OER are learning, teaching and research materials in any format and medium that reside in the public domain or are under copyright that have been released under an open license, which permit no-cost access, re-use, re-purpose, adaptation and redistribution by others." UNESCO

Educational material licensed in a way that anyone can use them according to the 5R:

Retain - e.g., download, duplicate, store, and manage.
Reuse - e.g., in a class, in a study group, on a website, in a video.
Revise - e.g., translate the content into another language.
Remix - e.g., incorporate the content into a mashup.
Retain - e.g., give a copy of to a friend or, to anyone you meet.

An OER must have a licence that allows adapting, remixing, and editing therefore the element Non derivatives, ND, cannot be used. If ND are used in the licence, it will still be an open access material, but it will not be an OER.

Whenever you are putting together material for a course, remember that there is a lot of open educational resources you can incorporate in your course. This is an effective use of resources.
Also remember that as a university teacher in Sweden you hold the copyright to your teaching materials. You can therefore contribute to the open educational resources community by applying a CC license to your material and sharing it online.
